Dresser-Rand business in Olean earns 2016 manufacturing award for operational ex

   The Olean, New York operation of the Dresser-Rand business, part of Siemens Power and Gas Division, has received the 2016 Manufacturing Award for Operational Excellence presented by Buffalo Business First business journal.
 
  The facility manufactures and tests centrifugal compressor products and gas turbines used in oil and gas production, oil and gas transmission, and refining.
 
  Nominated and selected by an independent panel of judges, the Dresser-Rand business received the award because of its on-time delivery record and efficiency in in parts and compressor unit manufacturing.
 
  “In a very competitive global industry, the Dresser-Rand business maintains the highest degree of excellence year in and year out,” said Jack Connors, Publisher and President of Buffalo Business First.
 
  Based on the strength of its expert workforce and the setting of a clear vision and goals, from 2012 to 2015, the time required to engineer and manufacture a centrifugal compressor rotor at the Olean plant improved 56 percent and compressor assembly time improved 68 percent. Additionally, the time required to engineer and manufacture a centrifugal compressor case improved by 40 percent from 2014 to 2015. The Olean operation was also recognized for its strong record of workplace safety.
 
  “From quality and efficient manufacturing processes to ensuring a culture of safety on the shop floor, the Dresser-Rand business in Olean strives for excellence in all that we do and we are committed to constant improvement. This honor belongs to our outstanding employees, who go the extra mile every day to serve our clients,” said John Stahley, General Manager for the Dresser-Rand business Olean Operations.
 
  In 2014, local managers at the Olean facility implemented principles of operational excellence– adapted from Larry Fast’s book, “The 12 Principles of Manufacturing Excellence” — including safety, workplace organization, quick and accurate transactions, preventative maintenance, product quality, on-time delivery, the posting of easy-to-see key metrics throughout the facility, cycle time and cost improvements, a communications plan, and training.
 
  “Through the setting of a clear vision and goals, adopting lean practices, gaining input and alignment with personnel, and proper planning, the Olean team  demonstrated the ability to show continued improvement towards the strategic objectives of cycle time improvement for parts and units,” said Karen Florschuetz, head of Dresser-Rand Operations Americas.
